Description of The Sentinel
The Sentinel is the third or fourth piece based on one photograph. The photograph shows a couple of late summer meadows in which horses and cattle graze, separated by a rickety wire fence and trees. Other pieces include two of the horses.
For this piece, I decided to focus on the group of trees in the near middle ground and the more distant background trees. I composed it from a fairly low point-of-view so the tall grass and path in the foreground add to the depth in the landscape.
I chose the title because the main trees look like sentinels guarding the winding pathway. Who knows what lies just beyond The Sentinel.
By the way, Afternoon Graze is the first piece.
